Audio Specialty Company provides services in the design, prototyping, modification, alignment, measurement, and repair
of sound reproduction components, vacuum tube and solid state.
As a long time hardware/software R&D engineer and
manager and a nearly life long audiophile, I realized several years back that I enjoy nothing so much as working hands on
with audio electronics. Since then, I've been working in a very low profile way to repair/restore/modify audio equipment of
merit that comes my way as well as to design and prototype new gear for low-volume production. This website is a way for me
to form new aquaintences and friendships with others who share my love of music reproduction.
I have a full bench
of test gear including Sencore SC-3100, PA-81, SG-80, and LC-102, Tektronix AA-501A, as well as a Vu-Data component tester,
various Fluke meters, signal generators, and a 1/24 octave spectrum analyzer. With these instruments, I can trouble shoot just
about any tuner, preamp, or power amp, and perform complete FM tuner alignments.
I have designed and prototyped many
products - some of which are: 2 and 3 way loudspeakers, external step diffraction loss compensators, antennas, noise filters,
line preamps, a turntable speed regulator, headphone amps, and tube power amps. Some of the modifications I have designed
and implemented are for improving tube tuner selectivity/sensitivity, preamp noise reduction, phono stage tuning, and tube
preamp output impedance reduction (for using with solid state amps).
I really enjoy bringing out the best in a given
piece of audio gear, substantiated with objective measurements as well as subjective listening. It's also very satisfying
to "bring back" a vintage unit with careful restoration. Occastionally I have a few such pieces for sale which I often list
on Audiogon or EBay.
I invite you to contact me regarding your needs or interests at (603) 881-5775 (Eastern time
zone) or at owner@audiospecialtyco.com.
